Vegetable oil can be substituted for olive oil according to some Eastern Orthodox “Traditions” for fasting. In some traditions the wine restriction allows beer, other traditions do not. If you choose to do some sort of fast, remember your body is sacred, because God made you and the “obedient” way to fast is to ensure that you maintain a healthy body, mind, heart and soul. Be very careful to take care of your bodily and spiritual health; by taking care of yourself, you are better able to care for others and to love God.
