Located in the heart of the Bay Area, St. George Orthodox Church has been serving San Francisco and the surrounding area for over twenty-five years. Moreover, St. George’s deep roots in the Holy Land have enriched the beauty of our services and the community to which we serve.
In 1993, His Beatitude Patriarch Diodoros of Jerusalem blessed the ordination of our head priest, The Very Rev. Father George Jweinat, as the first Jerusalem Priest in North America. With Gods’ grace & hard work, Fr. George helped establish numerous churches & monasteries throughout the United States. Due to our size, administration rights were passed from the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, who oversees the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in North America.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople established “The Vicariate for the Palestinian and Jordanian Orthodox Communities in America.” The clergy and communities of the Vicariate report to the Archdiocese through Archiepiscopal Vicar Fr. George Jweinat. Through the Vicariate, our Churches are blessed to continue serving all Orthodox Christians by giving them a taste of Jerusalem and the beauty of our Christian Orthodox faith.
